Case report

Zhou Wei,a 10-year old boy,G²P².He began to learn walking at the age of 13-month.Since then,the parents found that he was apt to fall down while walking and is difficult to stand up from Kneeling-squatting position.At his first clinic visit(2-year and 3-month),doctors found that his lower legs were somewhat enlarged and his serum GPT was 251 Units,so he was transferred to Hua Shan Hospital with a diagnosis of muscular dystrophy.During July and September 1993,his EMG Showed short spike polyphasic action potentials and low amplitude short duration motor unit patentials,the nerve conductive time was found,his tongue was in the middle position ,he was weak in turning his neck and raising his head(mild),the muscle power of his upper arms were about IV⁰ Mild neck wing and both side musculi gastocnemius enlargement were seen.He walked like a duck. His AST was 463 IU/L,CK 284 10IU/L and LDH was 1953 IU/L.The AST,CK and LDH of his father were within nirmal limit and the  AST of his monther was also normal,but her CK and LDH were elevated.He was diagnosed by several specialists as Duchenne progressive muscular dystrophy.The treatment included insulin,vitamin E and camine.Muscular cells transplantation was carried out in January 1994 without success. In spite of all these therapy ,the condition of the patient exaggerated progressively.At the time being, he cannot walk independently and cannot stand up form kneeling-squatting position.

We are putting the case on internet,hoping to get help to prevent our son from progressively deteriorating.
